Middle School Teacher

I'm very excited to be part of the incredible staff at Clara B. Ford as the Middle School Teacher. I've always dreamed of being a teacher.  Both my parents were educators so it must be in the blood!  After receiving a BA in American Culture from the University of Michigan, I had a variety of careers from public relations and advertising to owning my own delivery company.  I've been teaching in one form or another for over twenty years.  The last nine years I've been a substitute teacher specializing in Special Education.  I love working children of all ages and backgrounds.  In 2011, I decided to return to school to get my Masters in Teaching - Special Education with a major in Autism Spectrum Disorders.  I received by Elementary and Special Education teaching certificate in 2015 and completed my Masters in May of 2016.  I also taught adjudicated boys at Blanche Kelso Bruce Academy.

In addition, I'm a wife and mother.  My husband Tom and I have been married for 26 years!  We have three children - Maggie, a graduate of Oakland University majoring in Cinema Studies; Sam, a graduate of Wittenberg University who now works for Deloitte in Columbus, OH and Stephen, a junior at Ohio University majoring in Media Studies-Video Post Production.  Maggie was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome when she was 12 and I have had the opportunity to watch her grow and mature as she learned from some incredible teachers.  It's been interesting to see the Special Ed process from both sides. This has inspired me to want to be a part of the village for other children especially those with special needs.
